WHAT WE DO

Swim

Pulse runs coached swim sessions each week. These sessions take place in two locations: Balrothery Sports Complex in Tallaght and Clondalkin Leisure Centre. These are typically sold in 6-week blocks with sometimes the option to PAYG.

In the Spring/Summer, Pulse also offers a Monday night open water coached session in Killiney. Some say the highlights of these sessions are the tea and cake galore afterward. Killiney swims include a friendly TT series between members and is crowned by our ever-so-popular “Great Pulse Bake Off” at the end of the season.

Bike

Pulse has organised spins with leaders every Sunday starting from Cycle Superstore at 9am. These are very social and are offered in three levels of availability to cater to every rider:

  • White group: Novice spins are a great place to start if you are new to cycling, returning to cycling, or never experienced cycling in a group before. They are usually around 40 km, and the pace is dictated by the group. The policy on these is to leave no one behind, meaning the spin will only be as fast as the slowest person.

  • Yellow group: Intermediate spins. These improver spins are ideal if you have more experience and want to increase your distances. These usually range between 50-70 km at a higher pace (25 km/h average or so)

  • Red Group: If you’re an experienced cyclist, our red Sunday spins cover 60 –100 km at a faster pace and, more often than not, over hillier terrain.

Just turn up with a bike in working order, some nutrition and drink, a spare tube and a pump, and some cash for coffee and cake stop.

Throughout the year, we also organise some skills sessions in Corkagh Park, where you can improve your bike techniques, including mounting and dismounting.

In addition, we have a fun non-competitive (although some of us take it seriously) bike TT series mixing track time trials in Corkagh Park and hill TT in Dublin mountains. These are a fun way to test your legs with your friends.

Run

Pulse has a run session in Tallaght Athletic track behind Westpark Fitness Club in Tallaght on Wednesday night. This is a great session to consistently improve your run with a blend of interval, tempo, and speed workouts. It is open to all levels of runners, from the complete beginner to the experienced marathoner.

Occasionally, Pulse members can try their legs with our hill repeat sessions on Stocking Avenue or enjoy breathtaking views with organised hill runs in the Dublin mountains.

Long weekend runs are also organised within the club, especially closer to the Dublin marathon training period.

For a little bit of fun during the Winter, we have a Parkrun league. Every week, the club goes to a different Parkrun around Dublin, and points are given on various criteria (participation, time improvement, volunteering). This league is about keeping in touch with your club members during the off-season and enjoying a warm coffee afterward.

In conjunction with the Parkrun league, Pulse organises a Parkrun takeover where our members volunteer from pacers to barcode scanners, and share their love of the sport to interested parkrunners. This is always a great social morning out.

None of these sessions require any booking. Once a Pulse member, all you need to do is put your runners on and show up.

Strength and conditioning

Stay strong, prevent injuries, and increase your fitness with our strength and conditioning classes. These are coached on Friday evenings in Back 2 Basics Fitness Club at the back of Cycle Superstore. These sessions are booked in a block of 6 and are highly sought after.

New to tri

If you are new to triathlon, we have a complete program dedicated to getting you to your first start line with all the tools you need to enjoy it and succeed.

Port Beach Triathlon

A real pride of Pulse Triathlon Club is our organised race, sanctioned by Triathlon Ireland. It happens usually in September. Our members volunteer on the day to make it a memorable experience for everyone racing.

Other training sessions:

  • Brick Sessions (Cycling/Running)

  • Bike Handling Skills

  • First Aid Courses

  • Women’s events

Social

Pulse is a friendly club focusing on the enjoyment of the sport of triathlon. During the year, we put together non-training social events to give plenty of opportunities for our members to meet outside training and out of the lycra.

  • Pub quizzes

  • Christmas party

  • Club races

  • Fundraiser events

  • Club awards night

Training weekends

Abroad or in Ireland, these weekends are a great buzz and always guarantee efficient training and banter.
